A BRIDGE TO LOCALISED LIVING

SITE ANALYSIS: ORMEAU ROAD LINKS A MULTITUDE OF DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES IN EAST BELFAST. HOWEVER, THESE COMMUNITIES REMAIN SEPARATE, DUE TO THE ROAD'S ROLE AS A MAJOR COMMUTER ROUTE IN AND OUT OF THE CITY CENTRE, DIVIDING THEM WITH ITS HIGH VOLUME OF TRAFFIC.
LUCHTSINGEL,ROTTERDAM, NL: ROTTERDAM FACED A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH COMMUTER TRAFFIC DIVIDING DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE CITY. ONE COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECT WAS THE LUCHTSINGEL BRIDGE, WHICH AIMED TO BRING LIFE TO A DETACHED PART OF THE CITY BY FORMING A PEDESTRIAN ROUTE FROM THE CENTRAL TRAIN STATION.
MASTERPLANNING: THE PROPOSED ROUTE WOULD PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO THE NOTABLY ABSENT LINK FROM THE RIVER LAGAN TO THE DETACHED ORMEAU ROAD. A SERIES OF COMMUNITY GARDENS AND PUBLIC PLANTING PROJECTS WOULD DEFINE A ROUTE THROUGH CURRENTLY VACANT AND UNDER-UTILISED LAND, CONNECTING THE TWO PARTS OF THE CITY.
